DPS (Mihan) students win Synergy Award, visit CERN

NAGPUR: Team Nanostormers from DPS Mihan won the Synergy Award in the schools category and secured 2nd position in India (4th in South Asia) at the Bose Beam Line Challenge 2025, organised by the LifeLab Foundation. The competition involved students from grades 8 to 12 and undergraduates designing real-world experiments using particle accelerators and beamlines. A total of 37 teams from South Asia participated.

The team comprised Sweshtika S, Uddesh Gadge, Varad Sane, Rayan Konde and Jaskirat Bagga. They presented the project Deep-Tissue NIR-Activated Microrobots for Biomedical Interventions, exploring the use of gold nanorods, responsive hydrogels and tunable NIR beamline actuation for biomedical applications such as targeted drug delivery and blockage removal.

As part of the award, the team visited CERN in Geneva, Switzerland from June 7 to 13, 2026. Philips Mathew led their learning about CERN's groundbreaking research and the Synchrotron Facility's particle accelerator technology. The students toured the ATLAS Visitor Centre, home to the discovery of the Higgs Boson and Nobel Prize-winning research, and learned about the role of data science and computing in modern nuclear physics. They also built their own cloud chambers and directly observed ionisation tracks from particles.

Principal Nidhi Yadav noted that the students showed imagination and persistence in developing a bold scientific idea. School President and Pro-Vice Chairperson Tulika Kedia and Director Savita Jaiswal congratulated the mentors and Principal Nidhi Yadav for their efforts in fostering a culture of research and innovation.

Separately, Manya Johare and Avantika Singh from DPS Kamptee's team Oncohadronix received the Future Builder Award in the school category.
