NAGPUR: "Let's make talking about mental health normal," students of Jain International School said in a video message marking World Mental Health Day on October 10.
Made by the school and shared on its Instagram page, the video features five Std. IX students: Sarah Choudhari, Spruha Bichawe, Purvi Karya, Harsh Verma and Vedang Taunk. They begin with a question many young people will recognise: "I'm fine. But what if 'I'm fine' isn't really fine?"
"You don't always have to hide how you feel," they say. "You don't always have to figure everything out alone."
The students then point to the people who can help. "A friend, a teacher, someone you trust," they say. "Sometimes talking to someone is the first step towards feeling better."
The message turns to the school itself. "At JIS, we believe that every child deserves to be heard," the students say. "We are fortunate enough to have teachers and friends who give us their time, and give us space to feel, express, understand and find solutions."
The video closes with an appeal to the whole school community. "Let's give time to each other," the students say, adding, "let's be there for everyone." The school is described in the video as a place "where every voice matters, every feeling matters". The video ends with a "Happy World Mental Health Day" greeting and carries the caption "Today's kids are way smarter".
World Mental Health Day is observed every year on October 10 to raise awareness of mental health and to encourage open conversation about it.
