The South Public School celebrates Marathi Language Pride Day

NAGPUR: The South Public School, Omkar Nagar, organised a Marathi week on February 27 on the occasion of Marathi Language Pride Day. The celebration featured Marathi language and culture through student performances including forgotten metrical poems, solo performances, folk literature, proverbs, idioms and traditional folk dances such as Nandi, Powada and Bharud.

As part of the celebration marking the 750th birth anniversary of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, students of Standards 1 to 5 presented incidents from the lives of the saints. Students also presented poems of Mirza Rafi Baig and paid tribute to him.

The school campus was named Sant Shreshtha Dnyaneshwar Nagari on the occasion. The programme was inaugurated on February 27 by Asha Pande, a five-language poetess and director of Sahitya Vihar, who performed the ritual of worshipping the Granthdindi. Asha Pande addressed the students on the value of all languages.

Budding kirtankar Devvrat Deshpande performed kirtan and engaged the students. The handwritten student magazine Vedh was released at the hands of Asha Pande.

Awards presented: the V. L. Linge Memorial Best Writer Award went to Riya Hendge, and the B. S. Hedau Memorial Award was presented to Kannagi Nandeshwar.

The programme was compered by students Aniket Kolhekar, Chaitanya Kali and Aradhya Bhore and concluded with the Pasayadan of Vaishali Deshpande. Department heads Shilpa Nandanpawar, Sampada Sagdev, Rekha Ninave, Megha Bonde, Namrata Dangore, Maya Lokhande and Rajshree Kulkarni worked towards the event. Director Deven Dasture, Principal Mrunalini Dasture, Digvijay Dasture, Vice Principal Mangesh Chinewar, Headmistress Sangita Singh, and Supervisors Manisha Salunke, Shalaka Joshi, Minal Tandaiya, Anjali Deshpande and Dipali Vanjari supported the programme.
